Hubble Space Telescope
Lego has released a detailed desktop model of the Hubble Space Telescope, turning the orbiting observatory into a 1,252-piece construction set. Its significance within Lego’s previous Hubble releases is its scale: this is the first model sized in comparison with a Lego minifigure.
The telescope has looked out into the Universe for 35 years. The new set invites builders to recreate the observatory as a desktop display intended for space enthusiasts and Lego collectors.
Lego Icons Model
The Lego Icons Hubble Space Telescope carries set number 11382. It was released on August 1 for $140 through the toy company’s stores and online shop.
Once assembled, the model measures 15 inches, or 38 centimeters, long. That makes it about twice as large as the previously released Lego Hubble models, giving the new version a more substantial desktop presence.
Minifigure Scale
The defining design choice is the relationship between the telescope and the included astronaut. Because the Icons Hubble is sized in comparison to a Lego minifigure, the astronaut provides an immediate sense of the observatory’s scale.
This approach distinguishes the set from earlier Hubble models. Rather than establishing the telescope’s proportions through a companion orbiter, the new model uses the familiar minifigure format as its point of comparison.
Previous Hubble Models
Lego previously released three Hubble models. Two were scaled to the orbiters included with them.
Those releases were the Lego Discovery Space Shuttle—STS-31, set 7470, from 2003, and the Lego Icons NASA Space Shuttle Discovery, set 10283, released in 2021. By contrast, set 11382 presents Hubble as a larger, minifigure-scale desktop model, with the included astronaut emphasizing the telescope’s dimensions.

What changes for a space fan’s desk? Do you get to build Hubble and keep it on display?
Exactly. The article describes a detailed 1,252-piece, 38-cm desktop model, with an astronaut included to give you a sense of the telescope’s scale.
Wow, that’s neat! Couldn’t the earlier Lego Hubble models show its size that way?
From what’s described, this one is about twice the size of earlier versions and the first Hubble model scaled in relation to a minifigure.
So the big takeaway is that you can enjoy a detailed Hubble on your desk while also seeing its scale next to an astronaut!
That’s it. The key detail to notice is how its 38-cm presence and minifigure-based scale come together as a desktop display.
