Only IDE versions that use the Copilot SDK for agent mode are affected. Developers using earlier IDE versions continue to be counted because their agent sessions are not subject to this identification issue.
The updates restore IDE identification for agent sessions routed through the SDK. Once that information is present, the sessions can be included under the appropriate IDE rather than being excluded or attributed to Copilot CLI activity.
Fix rolling out
The fix is already available in Visual Studio Code. Other IDEs are expected to receive it in upcoming releases, with the rollout expected to finish by November 2026.
Developers must update their IDE to a version containing the fix. After updating, their agent activity will again be counted in both the Copilot usage metrics dashboard and the API.
