Hub

Run AI Workloads on Any Cloud

SkyPilot now integrates with Hugging Face as a zero-egress storage backend, allowing teams to run AI workloads on any cloud while keeping datasets and model artifacts on Hugging Face. This matters when available GPUs are on a different cloud from the region where a team’s data is stored, a separation that can otherwise create cross-cloud transfer costs.

The integration supports compute for development, training, and serving. SkyPilot can run that compute on whichever cluster has the GPUs, while the associated models and datasets remain on the Hugging Face Hub.

Models and Datasets Stay

For most teams, models and datasets live in a bucket located in one region of one cloud. However, the GPUs available for development, training, or serving may be on another cloud. Reading data from its original location onto those GPUs can therefore incur a cross-cloud transfer charge.

The SkyPilot and Hugging Face integration joins these two parts of the workload without requiring the models and datasets to leave the Hub. Teams can keep their data on Hugging Face while launching compute wherever GPU capacity is available.

Mount a Hugging Face Bucket

A Hugging Face Bucket or any Hub repository can be mounted into a SkyPilot job. The job uses a single hf:// URL together with the team’s existing HF_TOKEN.

Once mounted, the data is available to the SkyPilot job running on the selected cluster. The same approach applies whether the compute is being used for development, training, or serving.

Your Hub Data in Any Job

Hugging Face charges no egress fees, so reading Hub-hosted data onto the GPUs used by a SkyPilot job has no data transfer cost, regardless of the cloud running the compute. The result is a setup in which storage remains on Hugging Face and AI workloads can run wherever the required GPU capacity is available.

Poko and TECH Dashboard's own TECH Guide discuss the article's highlights in an AI-generated conversation based on its summary and collected source details.

Reading data from Hugging Face onto GPUs costs zero in transfer fees? Is that a big change?
The post says Hugging Face charges no egress even when GPUs for development, training, or serving are on another cloud. That can reduce the burden of moving data.
Does “egress” mean the fee for sending data out?
Yes. Here, it means the transfer fee for reading models or datasets from Hugging Face into the place doing the computing.
I’d try moving training to wherever GPUs are available while keeping my data on the Hub.
That seems to fit. You mount a Bucket or Hub repo in the SkyPilot job with an hf:// URL and use your existing HF_TOKEN.
