For Seoul, partnering with Google DeepMind may help accelerate areas where Korean institutions have historically been thinner, such as long-horizon fundamental research and AI safety methodology, while complementing the applied strengths of its industrial conglomerates. Talent development is likely to be a particularly important strand: Korean universities have produced strong AI research output, but competition for senior researchers is intense, and structured collaboration with a leading lab could provide both training pipelines and exposure to frontier work.
