Codex
A~GとLED
Repository
Displaying Codex Status
Task Monitor connects Codex activity across multiple VS Code windows to an ESP32 LED display, making it possible to check from a distance whether work is running or awaiting human approval. The difficult part was not lighting the LEDs, but deciding which Codex state could safely be assigned to which LED.
The system therefore determines assignments on the server and suppresses the display when a match is ambiguous.
Seven Labeled Codex Workstations
Seven work locations, labeled A through G, correspond to LEDs 1 through 7. An eighth LED indicates the connection and monitoring state between the display and Task Monitor.
The A–G labels already connect Work and VS Code within Task Monitor. A VS Code extension periodically reports the workspace of each window whose location has been set by a person. Separately, Task Monitor reads Codex’s local records to identify execution state and whether human approval is required.
The ESP32 display reads these assigned states over Wi-Fi. The implementation was also checked on physical hardware assembled on a breadboard.
Verifies Repositories on the Server
Knowing that a Codex session is awaiting approval is not sufficient to illuminate a location’s LED. Task Monitor must also establish that the Codex work belongs to the same repository as the VS Code window assigned to that location.
For example, the LED for location B cannot be shown as yellow merely because an approval-waiting Codex session exists. The server must first associate that session with the same repository as the VS Code workspace configured for B.
Hides Uncertain Matches
An earlier approach manually assigned A–G labels to Session cards as well as VS Code windows. That duplicated the same relationship in two places. The revised design keeps location settings only in VS Code and lets Task Monitor associate sessions on the server.
The system does not infer repository identity from displayed names or from the final folder name in a workspace path. Matching names do not necessarily indicate the same repository. When the relationship cannot be established clearly, no LED status is shown for that location.

Poko and TECH Dashboard's own TECH Guide discuss the article's highlights in an AI-generated conversation based on its summary and collected source details.
Seven workstations map to LEDs 1–7, while the eighth tracks the connection and monitoring status. Is that a big deal?
The article’s setup lets you distinguish running jobs from ones awaiting approval across multiple VS Code windows, even from afar. The eighth LED also shows whether the monitor itself is connected.
But what does “verify the same repository” mean? Isn’t checking the folder name enough?
A repository is basically the unit containing a project’s work. Matching names don’t guarantee it’s the same one, so the server confirms the pairing and leaves the LED off when uncertain.
いちいち画面へ戻らなくてよさそう!I’d use the LEDs while I’m away from my desk to see whether a task is running or waiting for approval. That could save me from checking every screen!
In this setup, positions A–G must be assigned in VS Code, and the repository match must be clear. Deliberately hiding uncertain states is the safeguard.
