GPT-6 Luna

GPT-6 Sol

Choosing September 2026 Models

The September 2026 GitHub Copilot model lineup presents a practical choice based on pricing and use case. Several new models appeared during the month, making it useful to distinguish between fast, inexpensive work and more demanding research or correction tasks.

GPT-6 Astra arrived in the first half of the month. On September 22, Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol and Luna followed, with their releases occurring about an hour apart.

GPT-6 Luna

GPT-6 Luna is the recommended starting point because it is inexpensive and responds quickly. It is positioned for work whose results a person can check immediately.

Tasks that previously succeeded with GPT-6 Sol may also be moved to Luna after the process has been reviewed and documented as instructions or a Skill. This makes Luna suitable for repeatable work with a clear procedure, especially when the output remains easy to verify.

Luna can also serve as a sub-agent for lightweight preliminary research assigned by a parent Sol process.

GPT-6 Sol

GPT-6 Sol is the choice for checking sources behind extension updates or pricing information, as well as for research and fixes spanning multiple documents or files. It is available with Copilot Pro+ or higher, and with Business or Enterprise.

If Luna and Sol cannot complete a task, another model family such as Claude Sonnet 5 can be tried. Claude Opus 5.5 is presented as an option for recovering during long tasks, while GPT-6 Astra can be considered for long-term autonomous work.

Pricing and Use Case

The 1.4 credits shown on an actual screen, equivalent to about 2.1 yen, should not be confused with the 60 credits, or about 90 yen, shown in the pricing figure. The latter is a comparison estimate based on an assumption of using one million input tokens and one million output tokens.

A four-quadrant chart compares cost with reference scores. The scores come from a third-party site, and the figure itself was created by the author.

Poko and TECH Dashboard's own TECH Guide discuss the article's highlights in an AI-generated conversation based on its summary and collected source details.

Luna is described as cheap and fast, but why do I see both 1.4 credits and 60 credits? Aren’t those the same price?
The article separates them: 1.4 credits, about ¥2.1, is from the actual screen, while 60 credits, about ¥90, is an estimate assuming one million input and output tokens each.
So it’s like using Luna for small tasks I can quickly verify, and Sol for research and fixes across multiple files?
That’s the split presented here. Sol is for source checking and work across multiple documents, and it’s available on Pro+ or higher, Business, and Enterprise.
So I start with Luna, then hand things to Sol when the job involves broader research or fixes. Nice—that makes choosing much easier!
That’s the idea. One caution: the reference scores in the four-quadrant chart come from a third-party site, so treat those numbers carefully.
